The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is finalizing a historic deal that would include Syria’s accession to the Abraham Accords and indirect security arrangements with Israel, as part of an American plan to reshape the regional landscape.
According to the newspaper, the deal aims to integrate Syria into a new security framework, including cooperation in counterterrorism and reducing Iranian influence in the region.
Meanwhile, the Syrian government, led by President Ahmad Al-Sharrah, requires the lifting of U.S. and European sanctions as a first step before any normalization, in order to launch reconstruction projects and attract foreign investments.
These developments coincide with President Al-Sharrah’s visit to Washington, his first official visit in decades, following his recent participation in the United Nations General Assembly.
